Bio-Inspired Pressure Mapping System

  • Project Title & Role:
Prosthetic Socket Pressure Mapping System — R&D Engineer, RockyTech
  • Problem Statement:
Traditional prosthetic sockets fail to capture dynamic pressure variations, leading to discomfort, skin breakdown, and poor fit.
  • My Solution:
    • Designed a bio-inspired flexible PCB sensor (spider-leg pattern) for multi-point pressure mapping.
    • Integrated resistive sensing elements with DAQ system for real-time monitoring.
    • Validated sensor performance through bench testing and clinical simulations.
  • Key Deliverables/Outcomes:
    • Functional prototype capable of mapping pressure in prosthetic sockets.
    • Filed PCT patent for the system.
    • Enabled data-driven prosthetic fitting and improved patient comfort.
  • Visuals:
    • CAD layout of flex-PCB (confidential).
    • Pressure distribution plots.
    • Socket testing images.
